One of the Fair’s crown jewels is the Gem State Classic PRCA Rodeo, now in its 13th year. When transitioning to a PRCA ProRodeo, the Eastern Idaho State Fair set out to produce the absolute best rodeo experience. This ambitious goal necessitated assembling the finest stock contractor in the PRCA, along with a dedicated committee and top-notch production. The unwavering aim has always been to attain the coveted Small Market Rodeo of the Year award.
The Gem State Classic’s commitment to excellence has been recognized repeatedly, earning the prestigious “Small Rodeo of the Year” honors from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) in 2019 and 2023. It has consistently ranked among the TOP 5 PRCA Rodeos in 2020 and 2022, a testament to its enduring quality.

Gem State Classic Pro Rodeo Crowned 2023 PRCA Small Rodeo of the Year
LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The Gem State Classic Pro Rodeo, a highlight of the Eastern Idaho State Fair, has been named the 2023 PRCA Small Rodeo of the Year. This prestigious accolade marks the second time the rodeo has received this honor, previously awarded in 2019.
The PRCA Small Market Rodeo of the Year award recognizes excellence in the sport of rodeo, voted on by PRCA contestants, personnel, livestock contractors, sister rodeos, and Lifetime Members of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). The award was presented during the annual PRCA Convention Awards Dinner at the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas.
“We are honored to be recognized by the PRCA and its membership,” said Corey Foster, Chairman of the Eastern Idaho State Fair Board. “Our rodeo’s success is a testament to the dedicated individuals and volunteers committed to delivering an incredible show. This achievement is a momentous accomplishment for the Gem State Classic Pro Rodeo Committee.”
The Eastern Idaho State Fair team extends its gratitude to the Rodeo Committee for their selfless service, which has made this rodeo a resounding success year after year. Their passion, devotion, and love for the sport of rodeo and this event are acknowledged and appreciated by contestants and rodeo fans, who often describe the Gem State Classic as the best rodeo in the state, with unmatched crowd energy and top-notch competition.
Last year, the Gem State Classic introduced a third night to the event, receiving an overwhelmingly positive response. The event has undergone several enhancements over the past few years to improve the experience for both contestants and attendees, including improvements to the announcer booth, arena, and chutes. These upgrades have helped attract top contenders and World Champions to Blackfoot, Idaho. Since becoming a PRCA-sanctioned event in 2012 and partnering with the award-winning Powder River Rodeo and D&H Cattle as their stock contractor, the Gem State Classic has consistently earned recognition and awards for its outstanding performance.
